Organizing My Life

Organizing My Life

One of my favorite things to do in public is people watch. It’s amazing to see subtle differences in the actions of random strangers around me. Even more so, it’s interesting to see how people behave when they don’t think anyone is watching.

From the dad playing with his son on his phone to the grandpa speaking another language to the ladies getting soda from the vending machine, all of them have different characteristics that are interesting to observe.

Krissy and I went to the Lexus dealership to get his car an oil change and his tires balanced and rotated. We were there for two hours and I was able to get a lot of work done so I didn’t have to touch my computer for the rest of the weekend. I enjoy being able to get ahead of my work (when I can) so I don’t have to fight the ‘you’re not being productive’ monkey off my back.

I recently accidentally closed all of my open tabs on Safari and I am lowkey devastated. I can’t remember what all I had open, but I do feel like I’m going to miss something that got closed. Thankfully, I categorize my open windows into a few major groups so I didn’t lose every single tab.

I like to organize my life in a similar fashion. Of course there are things that are just floating in the “uncategorized” abyss, but the majority of things have a set place, time, and topic to keep me sane. The most helpful tool that’s been the biggest help is Google Calendar.

Back in college, I used a physical planner to write down due dates, tests, meetings, and other events that kept me busy. Fun fact, during one of my first dates with Kris, we went to get a new planner from Ross. I have a picture in my phone from that very day. That’s the last physical planner I used to completion. I tried to start another physical planner after graduating college, but it was different when my days didn’t have the routine of school.

The older I get, the more I need planners to remember appointments and the less I need planners to manage my hourly tasks. I do enjoy the art of writing on paper and when I was in middle and high school, I refused to convert to the convenience of electronic journaling because it just didn’t feel as authentic as putting a pen to paper. But now, I enjoy being able to write on the go with my computer and my phone to make sure that I’m able to get my thoughts across without having to actually sit down and be still for hours at a time.
