The Lost Art of Reading & Writing

Whelp, looks like I’m settling in on an every other day publishing schedule. Who knows if it’s sustainable, but like I said in my first post, I’m going to write until contentment.
*If you don’t like spoilers, sorry in advance!*
Krissy and I finished The Mandelorian tonight and it was such a good series! I was so surprised that Luke rescued everyone at the end. I was completely confused on the timeline of when the series took place so my radar wasn’t counting on seeing anyone from the previous movies. I thought it was set after Episode 9.
I started crying at the end because I’m a sucker for happy endings. I’m also a sucker for sad endings…and any time emotions run high in a show or movie. I’ve noticed that the older I get, the more I’m liable to cry during a movie. Don’t let there be a scene where the characters are crying because I will cry along with them even if I’m not sad. I think I just hate seeing people in pain.
No matter the case, we will be starting either Obi Wan Kenobi or the Book of Boba Fett next. I’m excited to see if those are as good as The Mandelorian is. I’m sure they will be since they essentially were written and produced by the same people.
I haven’t always been a movie person. For some reason, I have a hard time staying awake. My sleepiness can hit either right in the middle or towards the end, but it’s inevitable that I will start dozing off. It’s so bad that I prefer watching movies in the middle of the day instead of waiting until the evening or night to turn on a feature film. It gets on Krissy’s last nerves, but I truly can’t help it.
In fact, I prefer watching series since I can pause, rewind, and catch up to things I miss. And it’s just all around easier to make it through a 40 minute episode than a 2 hour long movie. Some of my favorite series that I’ve seen include (in no particular order): Bridgerton, Insecure,The Mandelorian, Anatomy of a Scandal, any and every crime docuseries, and many others that I just can’t remember right this second. Some of my favorite movies that I’ve seen include (in no particular order): Mean Girls, Talladega Nights, the Star Wars collection, and many others (again that evade my memory). If I had to make a conclusive list of all my favorite pieces of entertainment, I would forget a good number of titles.
Back in middle and high school, I was big into reading. I would race to finish a book just to get to the next book in my collection. I was indeed the epitome of a book nerd. I kept every single book and I didn’t crack the spines unnecessarily. My favorite series of all time is the Jessica Darling series. I initially loved it because the main character’s name was Jessica, but then I quickly fell in love with the actual story and the plot.
While I’ve given away majority of my book collection, I’ve kept that whole Jessica Darling series. There’s something that holds me to those books. I imagine one day I will take the time to re-read them and fall back in love with them like the very beginning.
I haven’t opened the reading chapter of my adult life yet. I may regain that part of my identity like I’m regaining the writing part. Who knows? I might read a book that reignites that reading spark sooner than I think.
Signed,
Jessica Marie
